In an unexpected move at Tuesday evening’s Dade County GOP meeting, Chairman Charlie Browning announced that he was stepping down from his position. Mr. Browning cited scheduling conflicts with construction of a new fire hall and a new grandbaby as the reason for his resignation, and First Vice Chairman John Deffenbaugh will be Chairman Pro Tem until elections can be held for a new Chairman.
While Mr. Browning saved this news for the very end of the meeting, he oversaw several Party work items during a very well-attended meeting. He announced that the official GOP website would be up and running shortly at www.dadecountygop.org .
He also helped the local party firmly set the date for Congressman Nathan Deal’s annual Fish Fry for Saturday September 26th, from noon until 3pm at the Rumley farm in Rising Fawn.
The Party faithful also discussed the option of placing a non-binding question on the upcoming 2010 ballot to gauge the citizens’ desire to allow ‘liquor by the drink’ in Dade County. After discussion the question on the ballot, the vote was taken and was overwhelmingly defeated with just 4 votes in favor and 12 votes against and the motion failed to pass with little support from the local GOP.
